Western Australia's oldest town, York is situated about 100 kms roughly NE of Perth. Although proclaimed in 1831 and named after York in England, a permanent township was not however established until 1836 when an Army barracks and store were built. Today York with it's historic buildings is a small service centre for the surrounding districts. The community also provides good facilities for travellers with overnight camping allowed in a small area beside the Avon river. An added bonus was the Motor Museum situated in the main street that I am sure would be an attraction for Veteran and Vintage car enthusiasts, like me.
