I called into Cuballing on my way to nearby Yornaning dam where I intended to stay for a couple of days. There was not much to see in tiny Cuballing with a Roadhouse, an old Pub, a Post Office that looked deserted, Community Hall and the local Shire Council office.
The Town, now with an estimated population of about 300, was gazetted in 1899 when it was one on the original stations on the Great Southern Railway. It grew into a small commercial centre until the 1920 s when it began to decline due mainly to the growth of nearby Narrogin where better commercial opportunities existed. I suggest that Cuballing owes it's existence today as the administration centre of the Cuballing Shire, a position it has held since 1961.
