VICTORIA RIVER ROADHOUSE NT

I must mention here that the original group of 5 Motorhomes has split into two. Billeeeeeee, Jules and Mel have decided to remain in Darwin for a while, then take a different route to us and maybe reunite later. So, Marj, Colleen and Myself will continue on our chosen route to WA.
Just as originally planned, the now 3 Motorhomes turned west onto the Victoria Hwy which will take us into WA. Victoria River Roadhouse, about 200 kms west of Katherine was the first major stop over on a journey of around 1500 kms to Broome on the coast of WA. The drive through this area is spectacular with escarpment ranges on both sides of the Hwy and the  sometimes huge Boab Trees scattered along the route. What a beautiful spot the Roadhouse turned out to be, so good that we stayed 2 nights since the tariff was only $7.50 per night for an unpowered site and the facilities where good and clean. There was even good fresh drinking water available for our on-board tanks. The roadhouse is nestled right beside its namesake the Victoria River crossing and is surrounded by the stunning escarpment of the Red Valley Gorge. Although there was a track that lead to the river it was not possible to descend the steep bank to the water. Along with perfect weather,  with cloudless skies, temperatures in the low 30 s ( yes it is winter) and great views this is a must visit location on the otherwise lonely stretch of road.
