WOOMERA SA FOR THE ROCKET ENTHUSIASTS

Turn off the Stuart Hwy at Pimba Roadhouse, travel another 6 kms crossing what turned out to be a busy Railway crossing and you will reach Woomera. Not really a Town but more a defence residential area that had been turned into an outdoor Museum. No Garage nor shops except for a Cafe, with would you believe a Ten Pin Bowling Alley, both inside an Information Centre. Rockets, Planes, Bombs and more Rockets in the centre of Woomera made for an interesting insight into the past Australian and British forays into Rocket development. I think that the Americans are active around here these days, according to a plaque in the grounds that seemed to indicate so. I must also add that apart from a Police car that cruised by and one Lady that served in the Cafe, the absence of any other personnel was evident. There was no indication that I could find that a Refugee Detention Centre was somewhere around here. In summary I found the visit worthwhile but then I do like Rockets, If you don't then don't bother.

A typical Road Train of which there are many in these  parts all of 53 metres in length

Not a bad Old Record player from the Officer's Mess

This Instrument measured the speed of a moving object and needed two operators
